- Screw holes drilled
- Screw holes filled
- Strat heel
- JJ72 70′s neck pocket
These strats belonged to Mark Greaney when he was in the band JJ72. They got more than their fair share of abuse on the road, and as a result, the neck screws were simply spinning in their holes. Basically the screws couldn’t do their job of keeping the neck attached.
The old holes were drilled to accommodate ¼ “maple plugs I made. Maple is really strong wood so it was vital that the same wood was used to ensure a secure fitting. Once the plugs were glued in they were drilled to accept the neck screws.
One of the guitars, as 70’s re-issue, needed the neck pocket tightened as a result of repetitive stage abuse. 70’s Fender Strats are have a notoriously badly designed 3 screw attachment. As a result there’s plenty of manoeuvre room for the neck to swing on the pocket. So to minimise the amount of neck movement I made sure that the neck pocket was a very snug fit.
