Gibson LG Acoustic
This Gibson acoustic was made in the late 60’s and was at the budget end of the Gibson range. These were so popular at one stage that Gibson was concerned with warranty repairs so installed a plastic bridge on them using bolts. When new, the guitar came with a leaflet explaining their new “improved” bridge. It was so much improved that Gibson even allowed for some lifting of the bridge from the sound board….?
Anyhow, the owner did the decent thing and dropped the guitar in to do what most owners of these guitars have done and got the plastic bridge replaced with a proper wood one.
Before: The guitar with the original plastic bridge
Bolts: Here’s the “improved” Gibson bridge attachment mechanism as seen through an inspection mirror.
Bridge Lift: This bridge is not conducive to resonance or tone!
After. The new wood bridge installed.
